Genetic control of flowering and photoperiodism in pea: flowering in many plant species is strongly influenced by light, day length and temperature. The way in which plants sense and respond to these factors is being studied using garden pea as a model system. Mutants affecting flowering responses are being characterized, and legume homologues of Arabidopsis flowering genes are being mapped and used in expression studies.
