Career Summary
My career has been spent in practical and research aspects of pollination biology of tree species. Controlled pollination techniques were developed for Acacia mangium and A. auriculiformis for hybrid production as part of ACIAR project FST1986/030 based at the University of Adelaide. This was followed by several years of working in the plantation industry in Indonesia. I came to UTas from Shell International Forestry Ltd in the UK where we developed 'One Stop Pollination' a pollination technique for use in South American Eucalypt breeding orchards which has become an industry standard. I now work with genome doubling agents for production of A. mangium, A. auriculiformis and A. crassicarpa polyploids from elite seed produced by the Vietnamese Academy Of Forest Sciences. This work began with an ACIAR funded project FST2003/002 Polyploid Breeding Methodologies of Tropical Acacias and continues with FST2008/007 Advanced Breeding and development methods for tropical acacias.
