Research Interests
The bryophytes (mosses and liverworts) are the most speciose group of land plants after the angiosperms. They occur in a diverse range of habitats in all types of vegetation and this biodiversity provides numerous opportunities for research. Current studies in the School are centered on the taxonomy of Tasmanian bryophytes and their biogeographical relationships; Morphological and anatomical adaptations of bryophytes; Ecology of bryophytes, their distribution and associations in Tasmanian vegetation.
Students are also encouraged to work on ferns. The major emphasis of research is focused on the sustainable management of Tasmanian tree ferns and their importance as a host species.
