The Plimsoll Gallery was established in 1986 after the School of Art merged with the University of Tasmania and moved to its current site on the Hobart waterfront. It is the University’s showcase gallery and one of the key not-for-profit contemporary art venues in Hobart’s cultural precinct and in Tasmania. The gallery’s main aim is to critically position Tasmanian visual art and design within the broader national and international context and to offer a significant critical context for discourse about innovative visual practice.
