Lucy Bleach's practice focuses on human's varied relationships to tenuous, contingent and at times volatile environments, seeking engagement with communities that authentically experience such relationships, exploring links between the geologic and the intimate, and investigating the potential of vibrational ground.

In September 2015 Lucy was awarded a Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning at the Australian Awards for University Teaching for 2015.

'For the development of innovative curricula, resources and programs that inspire and engage students and the broader community in sculpture through creative thinking and practice'

She has produced solo commissioned and collaborative work within national and international contexts and received national funding, awards and international residencies. 

Lucy is Coordinator of Sculpture, School of Creative Arts, University of Tasmania. She commenced her PhD project in 2015.

Current projects

  • Underground, 2015. A major creative work to be presented in September 2015 as part of the Contemporary Art Tasmania Solo Commission series. Contemporary Art Tasmania is an esteemed organisation dedicated to the presentation of contemporary art.
  • Remote Viewing, 2015. A major creative work commissioned for Performing Mobilities, the Australian regional cluster contribution to Fluid States, a networked, year-long program initiated by Performance Studies international (PSi) based in the USA and UK.
  • Midlands Restoration Project (MRP), 2015/16. A creative collaboration with artists/researchers Professor Kit Wise / John Vella and scientist Professor Peter Davies. MRP aims to foster innovative art/science collaboration as contemporary site-specific art practice and supported by Greening Australia. MRP responds to regional environmental challenges through socially engaged and technologically innovative artworks. The project has received UTAS Community Engagement funding and we are awaiting the outcome of Arts Tasmania and Ian Potter Grant submissions.
  • Live Site Catalyst (LSC), 2015/16. A creative collaborative project with Spring Bay Mill, Glamorgan Bay Council, University of Tasmania Architecture and Design, and the Monash School of Architecture. LSC creatively responds to the contested post-industrial landscape and regional community of Triabunna in order to activate social transformation. LSC is an Institute for the Study of Social Change Flagship Project.
  • PhD project: Harmonic tremor, horizontal slowness: connecting the geologic with the intimate through a temporal, sculptural and social inquiry. Commenced 2015
