Dr Billy Badger is a Senior Lecturer in German in the School of Humanities. His area of specialisation is contemporary German language poetry with a special emphasis on spoken-word and performance poetry.


After completing his PhD at the University of Tasmania, Billy was a Lecturer in German at Massey University in New Zealand, before returning to the University in 2005.

Research Themes

Billy's research aligns with the University's research theme of Creativity, Culture and Society.His research interests centre on contemporary German spoken-word and performance poetry, and include an understanding of metaphors of poetry and the communicative potential of poetry.

Current projects

Billy has recently completed a book-length project on the poetry of German spoken-word poet Bas Böttcher. He has commenced a study of the cut-up poetry of German multi-media artist Lydia Daher.
