Research Themes

Dr Kelder's broad research focus is the nexus between accreditation and practice, investigating the relations between organization-level accreditation based on high-level performance indicators and individual professional identities grounded in personal practice and membership of communities of practice. She applies this lens in a range of projects, currently in higher education, with a particular focus on the design of evaluation and scholarship into course and unit design. Current research projects include investigating the design and implementation of the Bachelor Dementia Care, Understanding Dementia MOOC, Global Perspectives Program and Living and Working with Cultural Diversity Breadth Unit. This is in line with the University's themes of Better Health and Knowledge and Decisions.

Collaboration

Jo-Anne is currently involved in over ten institutional research projects related to learning and teaching and staff professional development. She also collaborates with Bond University research on student experience and leads an OLT extension grant research collaboration with four university partners on the Peer Assisted Teaching Scheme (PATS).

Projects

Organisational Response to the BreastScreen Tasmania Assessment Clinic Survey (2018)$8,000
Description
In 2014-15 BST administered a survey to collect information in five areas: Customer Service, Support and Care, Information Provision, Clinic Environment, and Client Experience of Pain and Anxiety. The survey was conducted for the 12 month period, 1 November 2014 to 30 October 2015. BST did in-house analysis during 2016. In 2017, I have been invited to run a project to facilitate BST staff and management to respond to the findings in the survey of the minority discontented clients, with a particular focus on communication and health literacy. This project involves me conducting or supporting:analysis of the survey data:design workshops for BST staff to discuss and reflect on the negative responses from clients, to facilitate identifying effective actionsEvaluate actions taken Report the survey findings and evaluated actions to the Tasmanian Health ServicePresent the findings and actions at the national BreastScreen Australia conference (April 2018) Lead a collaborative writing of a research paper

A consensus approach to defining standards for learning outcomes and informing curricula design for agriculture (2013)$219,000
Description
The Ag-LTAS project will develop a National Academic Standards Statement for Agriculture, aligned with the Science Standards Statement, which will encompass: 1) the nature and extent of the Agriculture discipline; and 2) Threshold Learning Outcomes for Agriculture. National consensus will be achieved through consultation with academics, students and industry stakeholders and piloted across four Australian universities.
