Dr Ha Hoang is an early career researcher working as a postdoc fellow at the Centre of Research Excellence in Primary Oral Health Care in the Faculty of Health. Dr Hoang's research interests include rural oral health, rural health policy and service planning, rural health workforce, rural maternity services, and migrants' health services.

Biography

Dr Hoang joined the Centre for Rural Health (CRH) as a postdoctoral fellow of the Centre of Research Excellence in Primary Oral Health Care (CRE) funded by the Australian Primary Health Care Research Institute across the Universities of Tasmania, Adelaide, Western Australia and Monash in early 2013. She has been involved in a number of the CRE projects led from Tasmania including dental practitioners: rural work movements, the relationship of dental practitioners to rural primary care networks and oral health services in Residential Aged Care Facilities. Prior to her current position, she held both her Masters and PhD degrees with the CRH investigating maternity services for women, and Asian migrants in rural Tasmania.

Description
Rural Alive and Well Inc. (RAW) is a not-for-profit organisation providing support to individuals, families and the communities living in rural and regional Tasmania experiencing mental health issues with a focus on suicide prevention. Through the adoption of a community development and placed based approaches, RAW, through its Outreach and Healthy and Resilient Communities (HaRC) initiatives seeks to build resilience and capacity of individuals, their families and the community, to react to challenging life experiences with particular emphasis on suicide prevention, mental health and well-being. The project team will undertake a formative evaluation of the Healthy and Resilient Communities Program (HaRC).

Zero Invasion Dentistry (2017)$20,000
Description
This project will manage tooth decay of baby teeth in young (0-8 years) children using silver diamine fluoride, an antimicrobial liquid that can be brushed on to cavities quickly and easily to painlessly and noninvasively stop the spread of cavities and even prevent tooth decay. This project aims to determine, over a 12 month period, the relative tooth decay arrest and prevention abilities on the baby teeth of children aged eight years or less of a once-only treatment of:5% Sodium fluoride varnish (NaF), and38% silver diamine fluoride (SDF) /potassium iodide (PI) /resin modified glass ionomer fissure sealant (a flowing sealant over the cavity) - called Zero Invasion Dentistry.
