Achievements

Lyn completed a PhD in Journalism, Media and Communications at UTAS in 2013. She is the author of Environmental Communication and Travel Journalism: Consumerism, Conflict and Concern (Routledge in 2015), and co-author with Bruce Tranter and Libby Lester of Leadership and the Construction of Environmental Concern (Palgrave Macmillan 2017). Her research has been published in Journalism Studies, Journalism Practice, the International Journal of Press/Politics, the International Journal of Communications, Environmental Communication, Ethical Space, Australian Journalism Review and Conservation and Society. She has also published chapters in Travel Journalism: Exploring Production, Impact and Culture (eds Folker Hanusch and Elfriede Fursich), Environmental Conflict and the Media (eds Libby Lester and Brett Hutchins) and Climate Change and the Media (eds. Tammy Boyce and Justin Lewis).

Lyn is on the editorial board of the journal Environmental Communication, where she was an Associate Editor for three years from 2015 to 2018. In 2013 she worked for a number of months as a research consultant for the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism. She has also provided research assistance on numerous large ARC Discovery projects.

Lyn’s research interests span environmental conflict and the media, environmental communication, environmental movements, climate change and the media, travel journalism, place-branding, tourism public relations, and social licence.

Outside academia, Lyn has worked for NGOs and as a journalist, book editor and communications consultant.
