Donald Reid is a lecturer in the Journalism, Media and Communication program. His research interests include media and globalisation, public service and national media institutions, sports media, and fragmented identities and public relations. He also has an interest in cinema studies, notably national cinemas.


Before joining the University of Tasmania, Donald was a lecturer in the Department of Media, Film and Communication at the University of Otago where he also completed his PhD. He has also taught at Victoria University (Wellington). Prior to his academic career, Donald worked in various media industry roles including print journalism, public relations consultant, in-house publicist and television development researcher.

Donald's research themes include examining the articulation of multiculturalism in the contemporary Australian media; the way class is conveyed and thus the hegemonic influence of particular media genres, notably reality and lifestyle television.
