Projects

Achieving effective biodiversity conservation outcomes through local government statutory planning (2014)$5,000
Description
The project aims to provide an in-depth contextual analysis of the extent to which biodiversity considerations are integrated into the decision-making process at the local government scale and evaluate the effectiveness of biodiversity conservation measures implemented. There are three main components to the collaborative research project: (i) an evaluation of development approvals integrating biodiversity considerations in Kingborough, to be undertaken by the research team; (ii) ecological monitoring of Part 5 Agreements established under the Land Use Planning and Approvals Act 1993, as part of a broader Council review of Part 5 Agreements, to be undertaken by the research team as contract research for Kingborough Council; and, (iii) semi-structured interviews with landholders who are party to Part 5 Agreements, to be conducted by the research team. The contract research component of the project involves ecological monitoring of areas protected via Part 5 Agreements established under Section 71 of the Land Use Planning and Approvals Act 1993 as condition of a development use permit.
