Dr Al-Aubaidy is a senior lecturer in anatomy and neuroanatomy in the School of Medicine, University of Tasmania. His research interest is in the field of cardiovascular progression of type 2 diabetes and prediabetes. Dr Al-Aubaidy's main research interest is in the field of biochemical markers of diabetes and prediabetes. He is aiming to identify the interaction of a series of biochemical markers associated with poor cardiovascular prognosis in individuals with type 2 diabetes and prediabetes (increased blood glucose level that is above 5.5 mmol/l but below 7 mmol/l). This will help to develop more effective primary prevention programs that slow the development and progression of cardiovascular disease.

Effect of Thompson's Cholesterol Manager on Type 2 Diabetes (2017)$15,088
Description
This study will investigate the potential of commercially available nutraceutical supplements (Thompson's Cholesterol Manager, 500 mg/tablet, two tablets/day) to reduce blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The action of these supplements is thought to be similar to the dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor group, also known as gliptins, which are second line anti-diabetic drugs after metformin and sulfonylureas. The gliptins block the action of DPP-4, an enzyme which inhibits a group of gastrointestinal hormones called incretins.
