Additional Information

Deborah's research interests play with concepts of garden, landscape, and wilderness in settler societies. These are usually grounded in the broader understandings of photography, screen, sculpture and related spatial practices, and deal with the persistence of ideas of the archive, narrative, materiality and performativity in these media.

Teaching Responsibilities

Dr Deborah Malor studied at the National Art School and the University of Sydney, later teaching in both Fine Arts and in Architecture at the University of Sydney, and at UTS (Sydney) in Design, and researching and cataloguing significant collections of 19th century art and photography.

Deborah has presented and published papers nationally and internationally. She has acted on boards and panels for organisations such as CAST, Arts Tasmania, Tasmania Regional Arts, and the Art Association of Australia and New Zealand. At UTAS she taught the Theory program and was Graduate Research Coordinator, 2002-2012. In 2010 she received the ACUADS Distinguished Teaching Award. In 2013 she was the inaugural RAF-funded Thinker in Residence at Sawtooth ARI, Launceston.
