Professor David Rich, MA. PhD (Cambridge) is Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) and Provost with overall responsibilities for the university's academic and administrative activities.
Until June 2007 he was Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at the University of New England. From 1997 to 2004 he was foundation Director of the Centre for Flexible Learning at Macquarie University, after serving for more than 20 years as an academic geographer. As a human geographer, his research interests centred on regional development, industrial restructuring and economic change; he also had a teaching interest in environmental change. For eight years, he was editor of the journal Australian Geographer.
David is currently a member of the Ministerial Advisory Committee on the Bologna Process and the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors and is an honorary Australian Universities Quality Agency (AUQA) Auditor. He was foundation Chair of the Australasian Council on Open Distance and E-learning.
