The Voluntary Positions Policy was approved by Council at its meeting of 23rd March 2012. This new policy replaces the Honorary, Visiting, Clinical and Adjunct Appointments Policy. In support of the new policy, a Voluntary Positions Procedure has also been developed. The new policy draws a clear distinction between titles awarded as honours, that is in recognition of achievement or past service, and voluntary positions occupied by individuals making a current contribution to the University.
The revised approach not only provides a framework to encourage and facilitate the work of individuals in assisting the University to achieve its strategic and operational objectives, but also has the potential to increase the recorded academic performance of the University. For example, through the attribution to UTAS of research publications by appointees to voluntary positions. It is intended that the new approach will also serve to codify and simplify the range of voluntary positions available and standardise the procedures around nomination, selection, appointment and renewal.
A Voluntary Positions Committee has been established to consider nominations at the Professor and Associate Professor levels. The Committee will review nominations at regular intervals. All nomination materials must be submitted to the Office of the Provost, via email firstname.lastname@example.org by the due date which is listed below.
