Bilateral Movement Therapy in Post-Stroke Hemiparesis

We are recruiting healthy people (aged 18 years or over) on the Hobart Campus who are interested in participating in research investigating how the brain's cortex reacts to simple tasks. This research is a part of a larger research effort to understand the effect of stroke on individuals and to develop rehabilitative methods. In the current experiment, participants will be tested with transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) before and after the performance of a simple motor-sensory task: repeatedly producing a small force with the right thumb while the left thumb is stimulated. TMS is a safe, painless, and non-invasive means of assessing activity in the brain. There are two required sessions of 1.5 hours each, at least one week apart.

First year undergraduate psychology students who choose to participate will receive a total of 3 hours of course credit after attending both sessions. All other participants will receive $15 per session.

If you have normal to corrected vision, and are free of neurological and neuromuscular disorders and would like more information or are interested in participating, please contact Matthew Schmidt matthew.schmidt@utas.edu.au)(6226 2243), who can supply you an information sheet for the study.
