Mock jurors' assessment of infanticide and insanity

I would like to invite your participation to investigate people's thinking about women who are charged with the murder of their child. This research project is being undertaken as part of Heidi Gordon's Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology.

The purpose of this research is to investigate the decision-making process when jurors deliberate about a mothers' innocence/guilt when charged with the murder of her child. Participation involves completing a questionnaire package. This includes being asked to read a short account of a fictional case (based on a number of actual cases) concerning a mother and the death of her child. You will be asked to record a verdict regarding the defendant's innocence/ guilt and perceptions of postpartum illnesses following childbirth. It is estimated that this should take approximately 30 minutes.

All students are welcome to participate. Participation in this study is voluntary and anonymous. First year psychology students will receive 30 minutes participation credit.

The finishing date for participation is the 5 th September 2009. You can collect a questionnaire package from outside Sue's room in (room 110) for Hobart students, the Psychology department for Launceston and Burnie students, or email Heidi ( hdgordon@utas.edu.au ) for more information.

Thank you for taking the time to consider this study.
