The nature of the participants' experiences will be discussed with them. In the first session participants will be interviewed about their experience of their partner's life threatening illness as well as an emotionally neutral event, such as making a cup of coffee. The information obtained from this interview will then be used to create what are known as imagery scripts which are a written account of the events discussed in the interview. The imagery scripts will be used to guide participants through the memory of each event. Participants will also be asked to rate the impact of their partner's life threatening illness using brief questionnaires. The second session will involve the imagery scripts being read to the participant while measuring their psychological and psychophysiological responses.
Completion date at this stage is late 2010
