The University Psychology Clinic at the University of Tasmania is maintained as part of the training program in clinical psychology, as a research and teaching unit and as a community service in making available the skills of clinical psychologists.
Who are we?
The University Psychology Clinic at the University of Tasmania is maintained as part of the training program in clinical psychology, making the skills of clinical psychologists available to the community in a framework of training, supervision and research. The Clinic is staffed by a Clinic Director, who is a registered clinical psychologist, in conjunction with teaching staff in the clinical training program. Psychology postgraduate students (Psychology Interns), working towards Masters and Doctoral degrees undertake supervised casework with staff in the Clinic.What do we do?
The Clinic is a training facility for postgraduate students to gain experience in the practice of clinical psychology. It provides short term psychological treatment for adults in the community. Clinical psychologists have specialist training in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of personal and interpersonal problems. Their aim is to help people overcome emotional difficulties and change their ways of feeling, thinking and behaving.How much does it cost?

The Clinic is open Monday to Wednesday from 9.00am to 5.00pm.How do I make an appointment?

If your GP or other health professional refers you, by telephone or in writing, we shall keep them advised of your progress.What can I expect?
Confidentiality -The services offered at the Psychology Clinic are confidential. Whatever you discuss with your therapist is regarded as confidential within the Clinic. Psychology Interns may be observed by their supervisor or may observe their supervisor during a session. Therapy sessions may be recorded to assist discussion between therapist and supervisor but are then erased. Your case may be discussed, while maintaining your confidentiality, between Interns and their supervisors to provide you with the best possible care.
Information from discussions that you have with your therapist cannot be released to others outside the Clinic without your written permission. Your therapist will ask you to sign a "Release of Information" form in these instances. However, in the event that a therapist believes that their client is at risk of either harming themselves or others, it may be necessary to break confidentiality and advise another person. Whenever possible, your therapist would discuss with you their intention to breach confidentiality and who they would contact.
Written records made by your therapist are kept in a locked cabinet that is only accessible to Clinic staff who are bound by confidentiality. You have the right to see your file if you wish.Your rights.
As a client you have the right to be treated with respect and to be actively involved in your treatment plan. You have the right to express your feelings and opinions and not be judged based upon them. You do not have to continue to see a therapist if you do not want to or you may request to see another therapist within the Clinic. You may also ask for a referral to another agency.Your responsibilities.
As a client you have the responsibility to provide accurate information about yourself and to treat others at the Clinic with the respect that you wish for yourself. If you cannot attend an appointment, please advise the Clinic at least 24 hours in advance.

Research facilities in the School of Psychology have recently moved to the refurbished Psychology Research Centre (PRC) on Level 1 of the Psychology Annex building (formerly IT Services space). The PRC provides state of the art facilities for research in the form of purpose built equipment-based laboratories, assessment and observation rooms, and flexible space suitable for a range of experimental and applied research projects.

The School of Psychology has a well-stocked library of psychological tests and test materials, available for staff teaching and research, and for other qualified users, including students, to borrow.

The School of Psychology in Hobart is situated only 50 metres from the main University Library.
The library collection includes over 650,000 volumes, almost evenly divided between monographs and serials (including continuations). In the monographs, there are between 10,000 and 12,000 volumes in the areas of psychology, social psychology, educational psychology, clinical psychology, and closely related fields (e.g., psychologically relevant volumes in the collections attributed to psychiatry, statistics, genetics, etc.).
In the serials collection, the Library has continuing subscriptions to approximately 400 serials regularly indexed in Psychological Abstracts, including most of the standard psychological journals, and there is access to PsycLit and other abstract databases that are URL accessible via the network.
Psychology technical services include the design, construction and testing of specialised equipment and unique devices, as well as installing and servicing the school's assets. The technical officer provides technical services and advice to students and staff for teaching and research

The School of Psychology ICT facilities are managed by Dr Vlasti Broucek. The School is well equipped with modern IT facilities catering for the needs of research and teaching at both the Hobart and Launceston Campuses. The School operates with more than 180 IBM-PC compatible computers, several B/W, colour, A4, A3 laser printers, colour scanners and a range of specialised experimental hardware. The School has two main computer teaching labs equipped with computers that are always under three years of age. The Hobart laboratory is equipped with 30 Hewlett Packard computers and two Lexmark printers, while the Launceston laboratory is equipped with 20 Hewlett Packard computers and a Lexmark printer. A new "Postgrad Studio" room in Hobart is equipped with 12 Hewlett Packard computers and one Lexmark printer. This studio is available for Honours and Masters (psychology and counselling program) students only.
All the computers are connected to high-speed LAN and through AARNet (Australian Academic and Research Network) to the Internet. The School runs mix of Microsoft 2008 and Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS servers and CA BrightStor ARCserve backup system in modern and ecologically friendly VMware environment. The HMC Lab is using a Sun Microsystems Blade 1500 workstation running Solaris for large data manipulation. The Cognitive Psychophysiology and Reading Laboratory has its own local network and fileserver based on Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS designed for collection and analysis of large amounts of data. Since 2008, the school is also running on-line survey server enabling secure delivery of surveys and questionnaires utilising Web based interface.
All students have access to a range of software packages including MS Office, SPSS, Statistica, EndNote, nVivo and other specialised packages. Students are also provided with access to Web based e-mail and have access to the Internet.
Wireless access points are available throughout the school's areas enabling secure access to University network and Internet using "UConnect network" from privately owned WiFi enabled computers.
