The Australian Universities Quality Agency has been established to undertake independent, external audits of universities and state and territory accreditation authorities. These audits operate on a five-year cycle, and the first round commenced in 2002.

The AUQA audit of the University of Tasmania took place in July/August 2005 in Tasmania and at overseas partner institutions.
