In accordance with the requirements of the Australian code for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes, University of Tasmania Animal Facilities must be registered with the AEC. This includes holding, experimental, transportation and breeding facilities.
The Animal Ethics Committee carries out annual inspections of University animal facilities. This is done in accordance with the relevant Heads of School.
Pest Control for Indoor Animal Housing Facilities
Section 3.2.17 (iii) of the Australian Code for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes requires that indoor animal housing facilities should be designed and operated to exclude vermin. It is the responsibility of facility managers and users to oversee pest issues. Any sightings or concerns must be reported immediately to the facility manager and handled in accordance with the facility’s standard operating procedure for pest control.
