Excellence in Research for Australia is a Federal Government initiative that aims to identify and promote excellence across the full spectrum of research activity in Australia’s higher education institutions.
The ERA exercise is led by the Australian Research Council and evaluates the quality of the research undertaken in Australian universities against national and international benchmarks. The ratings are determined and moderated by committees of distinguished researchers. There have been three rounds of ERA to date; conducted in 2010, 2012 and 2015. There will be a fourth round of ERA in 2018.
As a companion to ERA 2018, a national assessment of Research Engagement and Impact (EI) will also be undertaken. The EI assessment will examine how universities are translating their research into economic, social and other benefits and encourage greater collaboration between universities, industries and other end-users of research.
The University of Tasmania is currently preparing for the Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) and Engagement and Impact (EI) 2018 submissions.
