Directions for eHealth Research in Tasmania

Tasmania has some unique properties that make this the perfect research environment. Tasmania is already recognised as an ideal site for developing, testing and fully implementing innovative health information management and communication technology solutions. The Tasmanian population is also highly representative of the range of health, ageing and socio-economic dimensions facing contemporary Western societies looking to leverage eHealth. From a technology perspective Tasmania will also be the first Australian population with access to high-speed broadband infrastructure and services.

There is a wide range of eHealth, health informatics, m-health, health technology and related research occurring at UTAS. Many groups are involved in this research, some collaboratively and some independently. eHealth has been identified as an ideal opportunity for UTAS and individual researchers/groups to become involved in sharing of research and development, and coordination of broader collaborative research.

This Forum provides an opportunity to discuss where eHealth research opportunities exist and identify priority areas for future directions.
