An interdisciplinary workshop on the theme of Big Data: The emphasis of the two day workshop will be on practical implementation of computational tools that scientists increasingly need to tackle research questions using large and/or high-dimensional datasets.
We will bring together national experts from a range of disciplines spanning astronomy, earth sciences, oceanography and genomics.
Following a morning of overview presentations, aimed at pin-pointing common challenges in Big Data visualisation and analyses, we will work in small groups, developing computer-based exemplars of practical tools to fast-track data-led knowledge generation in areas of scientific excellence at UTas.
Speakers include:
* David Barnes (Monash Biomedical Imaging)
* Karen Meusemann (CSIRO Ecosystems Sciences)
* Lesley Wyborn (Geoscience Australia)
* Stephen Hardy (NICTA- Australia's Information Communications Technology (ICT) Research Centre of Excellence)
* Edward King (CSIRO Marine & Atmospheric Sciences)
* Nathan Bindoff (TBC) (UTAS- TPAC)
* Ben Simons (UTS Data Arena)
This session is aimed at researchers who are working with large datasets.
