The Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre, University of Tasmania, has developed the world's first dementia MOOC.
We tailored our MOOC design for a non-traditional cohort in terms of both university attendance and online education by creating a welcoming, streamlined learning environment within an open instance of MyLO.
Furthermore, we took a flexible approach to content structure, incorporating a diverse range of delivery formats and styles.
We developed customised, standalone web pages to enable us to control the content layout and embedded resources so that users could work through the course sequentially and within the context of the subject matter.
Adapting what is essentially a closed learning management system, intended for traditional courses, into a MOOC platform presented many challenges, particularly in managing registrations, in creating an 'eportfolio' without the ePortfolio tool, and in dealing with a cohort of thousands.
Speakers: Dr Carolyn King and Mr Tony Carew.
This session is open to all UTAS Staff and MOOC Developers.
