Research Funding comes from two broad areas: internal funding and external funding.
Internal funding comprises of funding from the UTAS Central account (consisting of Commonwealth RIB, RTS, and IGS funding), which provides support for schemes such as Conference Support.
External funding comprises of funding from Australia and overseas and includes prominent schemes such as the Australian Research Council (ARC), National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), other Commonwealth and State Government schemes, private industry, not for profit foundations, overseas governments and industries, and donations for research.
External funding may be granted via a research contract, a negotiated direct offer of funding, a consultancy, a donation towards a specific research project, a post-graduate research scholarship, a fellowship, etc.
The main resource for searching for external funding opportunities is the COS or Community of Science funding body database. This database advertises $33 billion dollars of research funding, and researchers can log on and search for worldwide opportunities.
Office of Research Services Funding Staff can also assist you in making informed choices about funding opportunities on offer and enter details of any funding opportunities as they come to hand. These funding opportunities are discoverable via WARP Level 2.
Successful research applicants are also on hand to help review your application in the University’s Peer Review College available from WARP Level 2.
