The National Centre for Maritime Engineering and Hydrodynamics at the Australian Maritime College has a number of PhD projects available with supervision supplied by our research staff in the following areas:

• Cavitation and noise signatures of submarine and surface naval craft
• Seakeeping and manoeuvering of new designs of naval surface craft and submarines
• Selective and energy efficient trawl gear, reducing of bycatch and decreasing carbon footprint
• High speed resistance and propulsion including waterjets, wave making and environmental impact
• High speed vessel safety and damaged stability
• Diesel spray dynamics including CFD of marine diesel engine combustion and emissions
• Computational and experimental investigation of alternative fuels
• Propulsion, development and control of autonomous and remotely operated underwater vehicles and subsea equipment
• Hydrodynamic performance of offshore platforms, risers and pipelines
• Numerical modelling of tropical cyclone populations and their extreme winds, waves and water levels
• Wave energy and energy generation from currents
• Research into low environmental impact craft including electric, solar and wind assisted vessels
• Hydrodynamics of high performance leisure craft including sailing and surfing
