The Cancer Council Tasmania Elite Research Scholarship is provided by the Cancer Council Tasmania as part of their ongoing work to minimise the impact of cancer in Tasmania by raising funds to undertake activities including funding cancer research.
Successful applicants must have completed at least four years of tertiary education studies and have achieved first class honours or equivalent from a recognised tertiary institution.
Scholarships are only available those who will be undertaking a full-time PhD program at the University of Tasmania in a field of cancer research. Preference will be given to candidates who are undertaking research in the priority areas of research as determined by the Cancer Council of Tasmania’s Science and Research Committee (SARC), the priority topics for 2013 will be directed at primary prevention, early detection, treatment, rehabilitation and palliation strategies aiming to reduce the burden of cancer at an individual or population level.
The stipend is $7,500pa non-taxable. The successful recipient will also be awarded an Australian Postgraduate Award or Tasmania Graduate Research Scholarship at a stipend of $24,653pa (2013 rate).
The successful recipient must commence their studies by 31 March 2013. For further information please read the Conditions of Award. Applicants should complete the Application for Admission and Scholarship for Higher Degree Research Candidature (see How to Apply) and indicate in Section 9.1 Scholarship Support, that you wish to be considered for the Cancer Council Tasmania Elite Research Scholarship.
