A range of chemical techniques will be used to study problems of importance to the pulp and paper industry in conjunction with Norske Skog Paper, a global company which operates two mills in Australia at Boyer (Tasmania) and Albury (NSW). Areas of research include the characterisation of the dissolved organic material in TMP pulp and its effect on colloidal stability and the use of pulp and paper mill waste to produce new biopolymers to replace petrochemicals
