A range of research projects is envisaged engaging with Australian chamber music of the last fifty years through performance, composition or musicological research. Performance-based research projects will focus on works for small ensemble, featuring the candidate’s instrument, composed in Australia after 1960. A series of recitals and recordings will necessarily include a number of Australian premieres and will be accompanied by an exegesis. A composition project would focus on the creation of a significant body of chamber works for various instrumentations. A musicology candidate emphasis may, as an exemplar, investigate the impact of works of a particular composer or ensemble; or of certain composition techniques, in the shaping of Australian chamber music.
Fields: Performance; Composition; Musicology
