Learning in and from Fire and Emergency Services Response

The successful candidate would join a research team investigating individual and collective organising for effective emergency management response in bushfires and other emergency events in Australia. This PhD candidate would work with the team to identify a particular aspect of learning (formal or informal) that would contribute to the project. Possible topics including examining the role and use of war stories in learning to manage emergencies; applications of multi-media technologies to enhance learning; and what enables or constrains team or organisational learning in fire and emergency management. The research team will be collecting data on extreme (naturally occurring) emergency events across Australia. Data collection possibilities would include interviews, questionnaires and observation of simulation training.
