This unique PhD program has been developed to train the next generation of oceanographers and marine scientists. The program is the first nationally to offer specialised graduate level coursework in quantitative marine science. Units include: introduction to quantitative marine science; physical oceanography; marine biogeochemistry; fisheries science; structure and function of marine ecosystems; techniques in remote sensing and GIS; management strategy evaluation and risk assessment; data analysis methods.
The program combines research and teaching skills of people within CMAR and UTAS and provides the strongest and most diverse academic training ground for temperate and Southern Ocean marine science in Australia. Students have access to a wide range of resources and facilities including high speed computing, research vessels, laboratories and specialist marine instrumentation.
