International competition for attracting and retaining high-quality higher degree research (HDR, Masters or Doctoral degrees) candidates is intense, as universities are increasingly focused on graduate education. Recognised for its research excellence, the University of Tasmania is equally passionate about its commitment in encouraging its HDR candidates to pursue their ideas and research in an environment that supports and rewards excellence.
UTAS affords our HDR candidates access to well provisioned areas of globally recognised research strength, mentoring by world-class scholars, an international experience and an enriched and strongly supported academic environment, all coupled with the vitalizing lifestyle Tasmania offers.
UTAS has strong support for HDR candidates, both domestic and international, offering competitive and generous living stipends, including Elite Research Scholarships valued at over AUD$30,000pa. International candidates can also apply for tuition fee scholarships and assistance towards educational fees for school age dependents. All our PhD candidates are provided with a laptop and access to a secure data cloud. All HDR candidates have the opportunity to attend an international conference.
We have improved candidates' skill base through introduction of a dedicated Graduate Certificate in Research. Enhancements to our on-line candidature management system (iGrad) include the addition of case notes, tracking of variations to candidature and the ability to modify and evolve timelines.
