The Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research (323.3KB) was endorsed by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), Australian Research Council (ARC) and Universities Australia in 2007. The purpose of the Code is to promote integrity in research in universities and other public sector research institutions. The Code provides guidance to institutions and researchers in responsible research practice, and describes a framework for managing breaches of the Code.
The University of Tasmania has established a sub-committee to provide advice to Research College Board on policy issues related to the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research and responsible research practices, including the development of new policies or changes to existing policies. The RIEC plays an important role within the University's Research Governance structure.
The RIEC will assist with driving cultural change at UTAS towards improved appreciation of research integrity and will provide input to the planning, implementation and monitoring of education and training of stakeholders on the responsible conduct of research.
The RIEC will receive and review reports on the conduct of research at UTAS, including annual reports to regulatory, statutory and funding bodies on compliance with requirements for research conduct.
The UTAS Responsible Research Framework provides an overview of the Code’s requirements and information on the University’s policies, procedures and guidelines related to the responsible conduct of research.
Under the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research, the University is required to appoint research integrity advisers (R.I.As). UTAS has appointed 16 experienced academics from across the University with a broad range of knowledge and experience. R.I.As are appointed to provide advice to researchers, staff and students about all aspects of research integrity. Greater detail about how R.I.As can help you may be found on the Research Integrity Advisers' page.
