Section 4: Publication and Dissemination of Research Findings

Dissemination of research findings is an important part of the research process as it enables the benefits of the research to be passed on to other researchers, professional practitioners and the wider community. Section 4 of the Code outlines the responsibilities of institutions and researchers in responsible publication and dissemination of research findings. This section of the Code applies to all forms of dissemination, including non-refereed publications, such as web pages, and other media such as exhibitions or films, as well as professional and institutional repositories.

Responsibilities of the University of Tasmania

1. Promote an environment of honesty, integrity, accuracy and responsibility in the dissemination of research findings;
2. Protect confidentiality and manage intellectual property;
3. Provide assistance, through the Communications and Media Office, to researchers when communicating research findings through the media.

Responsibilities of researchers

Researchers are expected to:

1. Disseminate a full account of their research as broadly as possible;Ensure accuracy of publication and dissemination
2. Cite the work of other authors fully and accurately
3. Avoid making multiple submissions of research findings, except in particular and clearly explained circumstances
4. Obtain permission for republishing
5. Disclose research support accurately
6. Manage confidentiality requirements
7. Responsibly communicate research findings in the public arena
