In July 2013, UTAS launched its in-house business development and commercialisation program, succeeding its former relationship with Uniquest.
The Director, Business Development and Technology Transfer (BD&TT), which operates within the University’s Office of Research Services (ORS) and reports to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research), will be responsible for the in-house commercialisation of UTAS IP.
BD&TT will lead IP and commercial negotiations with third parties on UTAS’ behalf, reporting into the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research).
Academic staff and Higher Degree Research (HDR) students who have, or who are intending to develop intellectual property (IP) and are contemplating working with industry or other research organisations are encouraged to contact and work with the ORS.
In particular UTAS staff/HDR students that see industry sponsored commercial partnerships as a way to translate their research into outcomes should leverage the business partnership with BD&TT.
The ORS’ BD&TT function is committed to helping the UTAS research community create triple-bottom line impacts (economic, social and environmental) from UTAS IP.
