In June 2009, UTAS entered into a collaboration agreement with UniQuest with the aim of achieving successful commercialisation of UTAS intellectual property.
UniQuest services apply to the commercialisation of all UTAS IP, excluding IP that is solely created within the Menzies Research Institute.
UniQuest is the main commercialisation company at the University of Queensland that has operated for more than 25 years and is one of the most experienced technology commercialisation entities in Australia.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) has overall responsiblity for the commercialisation of UTAS IP, with the day to day operations of the UTAS and UniQuest collaboration being managed by the Funding Office.
Commercialisation support is provided directly to UTAS employees through two UTAS based UniQuest, Managers of Innovation and Commercial Development (MICDs) who are embedded with researchers within UTAS Schools and Faculties. The MICDs are responsible for liaising with researchers to find, analyse, capture, protect and commercialise the university’s intellectual property.
Dr Robin Fieldhouse [Tel: (03) 6226 6299], is the MICD for all schools and institutes other than the Menzies Research Institute. The Menzies Research Institute has no MICD contact within UTAS.
