The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Paddy Nixon has announced the opening of the Research Enhancement Grants Scheme (REGS) for 2013.

• An internal UTAS grant, REGS 2013 aims to assist early to mid-career academics increase their competitiveness for external research funding (as a sole applicant or in collaboration with other UTAS researchers).
• Activities supported by the scheme include building a competitive track record by publication, nurturing collaborative relationships, and strengthening partnerships for a future Linkage proposal.
• Under the scheme, individuals can request $10 000-$20 000 whilst teams can request up to $40 000.
• The scheme is open to researchers in all faculties/institutes who are UTAS level A, B or C staff with research or research/teaching appointments (at least 50% and for a minimum of three years), who hold a PhD (or equivalent) and are no more than eight years from the date of their PhD award.

The purpose of REGS is to increase the competitiveness of applicants for external grants and applicants are encouraged to seek the support of mentors in applying for and spending their grants.
 
An important change to previous rounds is that staff currently holding Category 1 Australian Competitive Grants are ineligible for this scheme.
