The Rural Clinical School (RCS) was built in February 2006 (Level 2). Building upgrades were completed in 2010 (Level 1 and 2) to service the growing student demand. The RCS is located between the North West Private Hospital (NWPH) and North West Area Health Service (NWAHS) Public Hospital in Burnie.
The impressive facility is the main base for RCS students and staff, including part-time teaching staff involved in the MBBS undergraduate rural clinical program. The RCS is centrally located to service the Cradle Coast region on a hub and spoke model.
Nursing, pharmacy, clinical psychology and allied health undergraduate students, and post-graduate students working in the region all utilise the RCS. It is extensively used by clinicians and health professionals for team meetings and professional development events.

Teaching facilities at the RCS include: two large lecture rooms fitted with a centre folding wall to create four smaller tutorial rooms; a stand alone tutorial room; three consulting rooms; and a Simulated Learning Environment (SLE). These rooms are fitted with interactive electronic lecterns, DVD players, videoconferencing equipment, projectors, SmartBoards, document scanners and computers.
The facility is viewed as an important community resource. Prospective staff and students and members of the public are welcome to tour the building by arrangement.
Academics, visiting lecturers and DHHS staff enjoy teaching spaces that are well resourced and modern.
Health professionals working in support of RCS program are encouraged to make use of the facility and can obtain a 24-hour access card from reception.
When not in use for RCS purposes our teaching spaces are available for non-UTAS bookings (which have a health or education focus).
