Rural Clinical School
The Rural Clinical School (RCS) in the Faculty of Health Science at the University of Tasmania is one of a network of 17 Rural Clinical Schools around Australia, managed by 16 Universities. Each RCS has multiple training sites. Rural Clinical Schools are funded by the Australian Government’s Department of Health and Ageing (DoHA) through its Regional Health Strategy.
Our school is located between the North West Regional Hospital and the North West Private Hospital in Burnie. We provide training for Year 4 and 5 medical students on-site and throughout the North West Region of Tasmania. Our program in medical education integrates acute and primary care clinical training in rural and remote settings. The RCS is strongly committed to improving Indigenous health outcomes.
The RCS also supports nursing, pharmacy, clinical psychology and other allied health professional education. We also facilitate the development of locally-based research teams and work collaboratively with researchers from across Tasmania and interstate.
