Teaching Responsibilities

  • Teaching and supervision of 4th and 5th year medical students based at the Rural Clinical School, Burnie
  • Development of teaching resources to support the transition of final year students into clinical internship
  • Design of simulation based activities for developing skills in acute care medicine


Nick has pursued an active interest in rural health issues throughout his undergraduate and postgraduate years. He was among the first cohort of students to train at the University of Tasmania, Rural Clinical School. He was a founding member for the National Rural Health Network and was extensively engaged in the assessment of rural health curricula at medical schools around Australia.

Since graduation he has undertaken his internship and resident medical years in regional Tasmania. Prior to his employment with the University of Tasmania he has taught Personal Health Enhancement and Environmental Medicine to students enrolled in the Monash University MBBS course.

Research Interests
  • Childhood health, supporting healthy eating and physical activity in the Primary Health Care setting
  • Climate change and health: the role of primary care practitioners in adaptive responses
  • Global influences on health determinates (climate change, peak oil and economic instability) and the health delivery service
