Professor Ellis holds a joint appointment between the University of Tasmania, School of Nursing and Midwifery and the Tasmanian Department of Health and Human Services. Her role is to develop evidence-based practice and lead practice-based research in the North West of Tasmania. Professor Ellis is based at the Rural Clinical School in Burnie.
Professor Ellis has extensive experience as a clinical nurse, midwife and health service manager in rural and remote Australia. She has worked for the government and not-for-profit sectors. In recent years her career has seen her move to the higher education and vocational education and training sectors as a lecturer and educational administrator. She has come to the University of Tasmania from being Head of Department of Nursing and Midwifery at La Trobe University's Rural Health School. Professor Ellis's research and consultancy work focuses on quality and safety in health care through health service innovation and development and translating research evidence into practice.
