Rural Placement Allowance

The University Department of Rural Health provides health students with funds to assist with the cost of travel and accommodation to undertake placements in rural Tasmania. It is available to students who travel more than 40km from their home address. It is not available either to students who stay at a Rural Health Teaching Site or to students receiving financial assistance for placements from their schools.

Completion of the brief post-placement survey will allow us to process payments. Google Maps can be used to determine the distance between placement locations and your home address.

Guidelines:

• The allowance is $25 per week of placement.
• Students undertaking placements on Bruny Island will receive an additional $25 per week.
• Students undertaking placements on King Island or Flinders Island will receive one return airfare.
• A maximum payment of $200 per student per semester applies.
• Allied health student placements in Hobart and Launceston must include a rural outreach component for students to be eligible for payment under this scheme.
• Allied Health students studying interstate will receive a single $200 payment towards the cost of travel to Tasmania.

Students receiving clinical placement scholarships from either the Australian College of Nursing or SARRAH should check eligibility with the Student Support Officer before claiming a Rural Placement Allowance.

Post Placement Survey:

Students are encouraged to complete a brief survey for quality assurance purposes at the end of their placement. At the end of June 2013 and December 2013, all students who have completed the survey will have their names entered into a draw to win a $200 gift voucher redeemable at their business of choice, for example:
