Managing for climate variability is among the greatest challenges facing Australian agriculture. This booklet was written to help graziers reflect on the ways they deal with that variability, how they make decisions, and what information they use in their decision-making. Drawing on in-depth interviews with 70 graziers in the semi-arid rangelands of New South Wales and Queensland, this booklet presents a report on research. It examines:
1) how graziers make decisions in the face of uncertain seasons
2) how graziers assess seasonal conditions
3) how graziers use and perceive climate information
The report includes a section on the science of climate variability and a CD-ROM with links to more climate-related information. The booklet also contains a glossary of climate terms and an outline of the recommendations to climate researchers and information providers.
