Call for Participants

Applications are open for participants in The Postgraduate and Early Career Researcher Research Leadership and Management Workshop in Hobart 26 - 28 October 2009 presented by The ARC Asia Pacific Futures Research Network and School of Asian Languages and Studies, University of Tasmania.

Workshop Content
This is a national workshop for early career researchers and postgraduates working in the field of Asia and Pacific Studies.  The purpose is to equip early career researcher and postgraduate participants with the skills necessary to engage in productive research. The workshop will feature both keynote speakers and panel sessions of established researchers. There will also be workshop sessions giving participants the opportunity to ‘brainstorm’ current issues with a view to planning a future research track.

Through the generosity of the ARC Asia Pacific Futures Research Network, workshop participants will be offered return airfares and two nights’ accommodation in Hobart.

Location and Dates
All sessions will be held in the beautiful School of Art on the Hobart waterfront. Accommodation for participants is available nearby.

The Workshop will be opened by Professor Daryl Le Grew, Vice Chancellor of the University of Tasmania, on Monday 26 October at 1.30pm.

Monday 26 October 12.30pm - 5.30pm
Tuesday 27 October 9.00am - 5.30pm
Wednesday 28 October 9.00am - 5.30pm (the final session will be a discussion session)

The Program
The program will be confirmed at the end of August and will include:

  • Panel Discussions
    Researching Asia and the Pacific – Recent developments and emerging trends
    Asia-Pacific Research Funding: An overview
    Publishing for Asia-Pacific research
  • Workshops
    Elements of a successful research career
    Developing collaborative research relationships at the national and international levels
    Writing a successful grant application for Asia-Pacific Research
    Establishing a relationship with a research mentor. Meeting with mentors

Applications
Prospective participants are invited to apply to the School of Asian Languages and Studies by Monday 28 September using the application form, also submitting the following documentation:
1. Supervisor letter of support
2. Brief curriculum vitae
3. Proposed research direction plan
4. Statement of workshop expectations in terms of the above plan
5. Internet quote for return airfare to and from Hobart.
