FEES:
Students attending the In-Country Summer School Program in Japan are responsible for the following costs:
- HECS or the equivalent International Fees for the unit or units being undertaken whilst in Japan – the unit(s) taken will be credited to your faculty record.
- Students are required to pay for accommodation, breakfast and course program costs according to the program they are undertaking:
Program 1 and Program 2: approximately $1850.00
Program 3: approximately $1420.00
Program 4 and Program 5: approximately $1300.00
- Students are also required to pay for their lunch and dinner (approx A$10-13 per day) and commuting fare (approximately $40 per week), overnight trip to a hot spring resort (approx $180) and some elective activities.
- Students are expected to cover the cost of their own airfares, (visas) as well as any individual travel and personal expenses.
- Undergraduate travel is covered by the University's corporate insurance policy if travel
forms part of the coursework and is approved by the School/Faculty, including the Japan In-Country Program. For conditions of the policy check the University website before deciding whether the policy cover is appropriate for your needs or whether you will wish to take out your own separate insurance cover . DEPOSIT:
A deposit of non-refundable A$300 is payable at the time of application, the deadline for which is 18 September 2009. The balance of the fee will be advised later.
Payments can be made using the University of Tasmania’s OneStop payment system or through the University’s cashier at Students Services, where you should let the cashier know that the money is a deposit for the in-country program, a product that is set up on OneStop.

ENROLMENT:
Print out a hard copy of the enrolment form through the eStudent Centre (where you must log on to your student account). Fill in the enrolment form and submit it to the Student Administration Office of the University of Tasmania. HECS/Fee payments are to be completed before departing for Japan.

The University of Tasmania has the final decision as to the result each student should be awarded, on the basis of the overall marks awarded by Asahi Japanese Language School, and examinations are carried out at UTAS after the Japan In-Country Program.
PRE-REQUISITES:
Program 1: no prerequisite
Program 2:
a pass in the HMJ101 of the University of Tasmania or equivalent
Program 3: a pass in the HMJ102 of the University of Tasmania or equivalent
Program 4: a pass in the HMJ207 of the University of Tasmania or equivalent
Program 5: a pass in two HMJ300 level language units of the University of Tasmania or equivalent

IMPORTANT:
You are expected to attend all classes during the course. You are encouraged to spend your free time in the weekends to experience more of Japan . However, missing classes to engage in other activities is NOT permitted.

ACCOMMODATION:
For the duration of the program, you will stay with a Japanese family. This is a great opportunity for you to experience Japanese family life and culture first-hand.
