Come on a quest for Yoshitsune, Japan's twelfth century tragic hero. 6 to 16 January 2010 in Japan The journey will take you to the mountains of Yoshino
..and to the Shikoku's Konpira-san to climb the thousand steps to the Edo era kabuki theatre.
Staff: Barbara Hartley (SALS Coordinator Japanese Literary Studies) and Jenny Scott (traditional Japanese theatre) The unit requires a good level of fitness, and preparatory study during December 2009 in Hobart. Enrolment will be HECS liable. Students are required to meet additional travel and accommodation costs. A detailed timetable will be available here at the end of August.
The learning sites This unit will be conducted in a number of sites in and around the Kansai area of Japan. The base will be Okayama City in Okayama Prefecture. Other sites visited include: Kompira Shrine, Kotohira, Shikoku http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kompira_Shrine Students will also participate in traditional theatre workshops for kyogen and noh.
