Prof Bruce Gemmell now heading up research centre
Professor Bruce Gemmell is now Head of UTAS ARC Centre for Excellence in Ore Deposits (CODES).
He has been Head of the UTAS School of Earth Sciences since 2004 and Deputy Director of CODES since 2005.
"I am looking forward to the challenges of leading into the future one of the world's best ore deposit and exploration science groups. We have a tremendous group of academic and professional staff as well as RHD students at CODES and it is a honour to be chosen as the new Director," said Prof Gemmell.
Prof Gemmell specialises in the geology and genesis of modern and ancient volcanic-hosted massive sulfide and epithermal Ag-Au deposits.
He has written more than 80 papers dealing with fundamental and applied aspects of mineral deposit geology and genesis and has supervised more than 50 Honours and Masters students and more than 20 PhD students.
In addition, he has sat on the editorial boards of Economic Geology and Mineralium Deposita and has guest-edited several special issues for Economic Geology.
Prof Gemmell has also been awarded three Teaching Merit Certificates at UTAS and won the Dean's Research Award in 2003 and the AMIRA International Award for Geoscience Research Excellence in 2012.
Prof Gemmell gained his Bachelor of Science at the University of British Columbia in 1979, which he followed with a Masters and PhD in Geology at Dartmouth College, USA.
