Broadly speaking my (half-time) role is to provide academic and strategic leadership in all aspects of the Faculty’s international activities. Working closely with the Dean and Faculty Executive, I am tasked to lead, promote, and develop a culture of responsible internationalisation in accordance with Open to Talent. This will be achieved through: enhancing the Faculty’s profile internationally, developing international partnerships that are relevant to and enhance the Faculty’s profile, assisting in the recruitment process for high-quality international students from and diverse range of countries and sources, and, fostering staff and student mobility.
I tend to teach computer programming to first year students and excel in a large-class environment. At the moment I am Unit Coordinator of the following units: KXC151 Programming and Problem Solving, KXC154 Software Process, KXT101 Programming and Problem Solving, KXT102 Programming with Data Structures, and KXT305 Mobile and Ubiquitous Computing. I am an award-winning teacher, and have received two Teaching Excellence Awards and numerous Teaching Merit Certificates.
My research publications can be found here.
My research interests are in the area of Learning and Teaching generally and I have been involved in many projects including: learning thresholds in Science, generic attributes, information literacy, and developing the first journal of undergraduate Science in Australia. Currently I am involved in an international study of the learning experiences of first-year Computing students.
I am also interested in parallel and distributed computing including grid computing and speculative evaluation in functional programming. This was the area of my PhD study.
I remain a half-time Senior Lecturer within the School of Computing and Information Systems and am Associate Head of that School. I am also Degree Coordinator for Science and for postgraduate coursework programmes in Computing and Information Systems.
