Achieve amazing things!

Every year we proudly award a number of $2,000 scholarships that allow undergraduate students to conduct supervised research for 6 - 8 weeks over the summer period.

Why undertake a Summer Research Scholarship?

Working alongside a supervisor, you will gain valuable research experience during your undergraduate study, potentially even being published along the way. This experience will give you an edge for pursuing your new career, demonstrating you can put your knowledge into practice, and building valuable soft skills in time and project management.

It may also pave the way to further postgraduate research, starting with a research honours year and leading all the way to a PhD.

How do I find a research project and a supervisor?

The first step is to talk to your lecturers and tutors about the topics that you're interested in. Discuss what you find fascinating about a particular area of study, find a subject that you want to delve into, and ask the questions you want to answer with your research.

Once you have an idea of the research topic you want to pursue, you need to identify a supervisor. Again, discuss this with your lecturers as they can help connect you to the people who specialise in the area your interested in.

Eligibility requirements:
  • you need a GPA of at least 5.5
  • you need to have completed at least one full year of study in a science, technology, engineering or mathematics related degree, and in a discipline relevant to the School or Research Centre you are seeking a placement in, and
  • you need to meet the entry requirements for the Bachelor of Philosophy.

"In undergrad we get to go on lots of field trips and do mini projects, but it’s a whole different thing when you’re in charge of your own project. Designing it, planning it, going out and doing it and then seeing the results is a great experience, and a lot of fun."
