submission details for nexus journal of undergraduate science engineering and technology

Nexus: journal of undergraduate science, engineering and technology aims to provide a model and a means of integrating and promoting the teaching/research nexus within the undergraduate curriculum at the University of Tasmania.

The journal highlights linkages between high-level learning and research, and between research and publication. It also provides a showcase for the research undertaken by University of Tasmania undergraduate students from the disciplines of science, engineering, and technology.

It is published annually.

Volume 3 is currently being laid out for printing and will be available by the end of June. Activities for the preparation of Volume 4 of Nexus: journal of undergraduate science, engineering and technology are also well underway.

Currently
We are calling for academic staff, able to nominate students to have their work included in the journal, and willing to provide a mentoring role. The work needs to be:

  • of a high quality;
  • written in semester 2 2006, semester 1 2007, or semester 2 2007; and
  • able to be formatted as either a research paper, a review article, or a short paper.

Mentors are usually Unit Coordinator, but may be another academic (or former academic). The role of the mentor is to provide guidance to the student in the provision of their paper and to approve the final version for submission. It is not envisioned that this would consume much time.

Initially, we need Unit Coordinators to simply indicate their willingness to be involved.

Timetable
The following dates punctuate the timeline for Volume 4's release:

  • June 8th (or earlier) — unit coordinators to advise the Editorial Committee of likely student submissions
  • June 15th — Editorial Committee to invite students to submit papers for publication
  • August 31st— mentors/supervisors to sign off on the compliance and quality of their student's paper and students to submit papers for publication
  • Early 2008— Volume 4 published in both hard copy and on-line with complimentary copies mailed to authors and mentors
